Build a digital menu (menu books)

Overview#

A menu book is the digital menu shown on the ordering tablets. It has three layers: book → pages → hotspots.

• Book: one menu, such as lunch or drinks
• Page: one image of a menu page or design
• Hotspot: a tappable area on a page, linked to a product, another page, another book or a function button

Products themselves (name, price, specs) are set up in Products first. → Set up products and categories

Steps#

1. Create a menu book#

1. Open Orders & menu → Menu Books and select a shop.
2. Click Add Menu Book.
3. Enter the Book Name, Language and Sort Order. Description and Remark are optional.
4. Save.

The book is created in the shop selected at the top of the screen.

2. Add pages#

1. Click View Pages (the document icon) on the book's row.
2. Click Add Page and enter the Page Name.
3. Set the Page Type (Normal, Cover, Table of Contents or Back Cover), Page Number and Sort Order.
4. Choose the Orientation (Portrait or Landscape).
5. Upload the Page Image and save.

Images must be under 1.1MB in jpeg, jpg, gif or png. Recommended sizes are 1620 × 2160px for portrait and 2160 × 1620px for landscape.

3. Place hotspots#

1. Click Edit Hotspots (the pointer icon) on the page's row to open the Hotspot Editor.
2. Pick an item from the tabs on the right: Products, Pages, Books or Buttons.
3. Drag it onto the page image.
4. Drag a hotspot to move it, and drag its bottom-right corner to resize it.
5. Remove a hotspot with the × at its top-right corner.
6. Click Save.

On the Products tab you can search by product ID or name and filter by category. The Buttons tab lists function buttons such as cart, checkout, call staff, language switch and page turning.

4. Publish to the ordering tablets#

Changes to books, pages and hotspots pile up as unsynced. Click Sync to Tablets on Menu Books or Products to publish them.

On the screen#

• Menu Books: name, language, sort order, link and status. Row icons open the pages, edit or delete.
• Menu Pages: page number, name, type, orientation and image. Row icons edit hotspots, edit the page or delete it.

FAQ#

• My page image won't upload. Check that it's under 1.1MB and in jpeg, jpg, gif or png format.
• The product I want isn't in the hotspot list. Products that are Off Sale or belong to another shop don't appear. Put the product On Sale in Products.
• Can I restore a deleted book or page? No. You're asked to confirm before deleting.
