Send coupons automatically to guests who stop coming (automated coupons)

Automatically give coupons and notify on LINE guests who have not come back two weeks after their first visit, one month after their second, who have lapsed, or who have a birthday this month. Compare with guests who received nothing (the control group) to see whether visits really increased.

Overview

Automated coupons check visit records every 15 minutes, give coupons to guests who match a rule and notify them on LINE (LINE pack). Messages go to LINE friends who are linked to a guest record.

  • Thank-you after a visit: a thank-you message (no coupon) the day after a first visit
  • Second visit: a coupon for guests who have not returned 14–28 days after their first visit
  • Third visit: a coupon for guests who have not returned 30–44 days after their second visit
  • Lapsed guests: a coupon for guests whose last visit was 21 days ago (or twice your restaurant's typical interval, if longer) up to 180 days ago. You can choose a different coupon after 90 days
  • Birthday month: a coupon valid until the end of the month for guests whose birthday is this month (last visit within 270 days)

(The days shown are the defaults.)

You can change the days, coupon and message for each rule. Each rule shows how many guests it currently applies to.

Steps

  1. Create the coupons to give in Coupons first.
  2. On Reservations & guests → LINE → Automated coupons, switch on the rules you want, choose coupons and days, and click Save.
  3. Under Common settings, set the sending hours (10:00–20:00 by default), the control group share (10% by default) and the expiry reminder.
  4. After about a month, compare guests who were sent coupons with those who were not under Results.

Limits so guests are not spammed

  • Up to 2 messages and 1 coupon per guest in any 30 days.
  • No coupons for guests who already have an upcoming booking (birthday coupons are still sent).
  • Lapsed guests are contacted at most once every 90 days.
  • 10% of this month's remaining messages (at least 10) are kept for booking reminders. Guests who do not fit are sent next time or next month.
  • Expiry reminder: guests who have not used an automatically sent coupon (including the welcome coupon) get one reminder 3 days before it expires.

Reading the results

Results compare the return rate and sales per guest in the 30 days after a guest qualified, between guests who were sent coupons and the control group (guests chosen at random who were sent nothing).

  • Difference: the difference in return rate (percentage points)
  • Added sales: (sales per guest who was sent a coupon − sales per guest in the control group) × the number of guests sent. Sales are compared after coupon discounts.
  • While either group has fewer than 30 guests, figures are shown for reference. Guests who qualified less than 30 days ago are counted as still counting.

The coupon usage rate alone does not show the effect, because some guests would have come anyway.

Sent messages

Sent messages lists the rule, the guest, the status (Sent / Control / Failed / Issued only) and the coupon's status. It shows Failed if the guest blocked you or the month's messages ran out, and Issued only for guests who are not friends (the coupon can still be used at checkout on the iPad).
