FAQ
FAQ
Shows programmes you may be eligible for based on your answers — not a guarantee of funding.
What's the difference between a subsidy and a grant?
Both are non-repayable public support. Subsidies (from METI, local governments and others) have fixed budgets and are awarded only to applicants selected in review. Grants (such as MHLW employment grants) are usually paid to anyone who meets the conditions, and some accept applications all year.
Where does this information come from?
We import public data every morning from Jグランツ, the Digital Agency's e-application system for subsidies. Always check the latest guidelines, conditions and deadlines on each programme's official page.
Can Bookmi apply on my behalf?
Bookmi helps you find programmes, reminds you of deadlines and records progress. We don't prepare or submit application documents to government offices — in Japan that is the work of administrative scriveners (行政書士) for subsidies and labour and social security attorneys (社労士) for MHLW grants. For documents, consult one of them, a certified support organisation, or your local chamber of commerce.
Do I receive the money as soon as I'm approved?
Most subsidies are paid afterwards: you carry out the project and pay the costs, then receive the funds once your results report is accepted. You'll need your own funds or a loan until then.
Do I need gBizID Prime?
Most e-applications on Jグランツ require a gBizID Prime account. Issuing can take one to two weeks, so it's best to get one early.
Can sole proprietors use these?
Many, yes — some, such as the small business sustainability subsidy (持続化補助金), are aimed at sole proprietors. Choose “0” employees on this page to hide programmes you'd be excluded from by headcount.
