Quote the original email in replies

When you reply to an email, you can now quote the original message the same way Gmail does. Threads are also easier to read, with older emails collapsed.

Before

Replies didn't include the original email, and every email in a thread was shown fully expanded.

What's new

  • Quote the original email: Replies now include the original message below your text and signature, introduced by a "date, name <address>:" line (on by default). You can turn off Quote the original email in the composer and preview the quoted text before sending.
  • Collapsed quotes: In threads, quoted text at the end of an email (including the quotes customers' replies carry) is collapsed; click Show quoted text to see it.
  • Older emails on one line: When you open a thread, only the latest email, unread emails and emails whose sending status needs your attention are expanded. Older read emails collapse to one line showing the sender, the start of the message and the date. Runs of four or more are grouped as N earlier emails, and you can switch with Expand all and Collapse all.
  • Opening a thread from Mail takes you to the first unread email (or the latest one if everything is read).
  • One email per card: Each email in a thread now has its own card, with the date and weekday on the right of the sender line. Emails are ordered by the time they were sent or received.
  • Replying when you were CC'd: When you reply to an email you only received in CC, the original To recipients now stay in CC, so the main recipient isn't dropped.
  • Attachments show icons by file type, such as PDF, Word and Excel.

Who it's for

  • Screens: Customers & email > Mail, and email threads on customer, contact and deal screens
